Reading 2

Type and Lettering

- It's wasn't just word and pictures, but also the shapes of letters that formed the words, the spaces between the letters, and the messages and feeling – the total combination of things conveyed

- Concern about font choice when working on different media (some type design work better on print pages than on film)

- Typography's relationship in space and environment, how it reacts, mimics, or negates identifiable relationship on physical space

- For type to work effectively, it's not enough to simply draw an alphabet; rather, it's necessary to know how the letterforms will function together on both aesthetic and utilitarian levels

- Lettering is another indispensable component of graphic design and practicing lettering is the only efficient way to learn the methods of the craft.
